font troubles
So I work for a preschool and I am creating an interactive yearbook for them. It is just a cd with a folder for each class with individual pictures of each child, and then a class photo. They want a picture of the class to replace the folder "icon". That is the least of my worries. (but if you know how do exchange icons for an image, i'd appreciate your help :D)

I have been working on their pc for the last few months, but the hard drive just crashed, so I have been bringing in my laptop (macbook pro :D) and finishing the project. Everything is going great with ONE exeption (well, and the icon replacement, but that isn't a huge deal). I used one font on every childs individual photo and I still have about 30 kids to do. I tried to download the font on my laptop. And for some reason, the font shows up in my font book and, it even shows up in photoshop, but then when I type out something, there is no text. I downloaded another version (the font is Brady Bunch by the way) and this one shows up in my fontbook after I installed it, but never shows up in my fonts in photoshop (or in any other program). I don't know what you guys could do, but I figured I'd ask about it, and see if you had any advice, or have had to deal with these issues before. I appreciate any feedback, thanks alot and I am glad I found a Mac community, yay!

I'm new to this community. I basically just searched for it because I have some issues with my new Ipod and sometimes LJ communities are the best place to find answers to your questions (the damn apple site sure wasn't helping much)

I don't exactly have any problem problems, but I got a new IPOD for christmas, one of the big ones with the screen in the middle, anyway, it seems like the battery dwindles down faster than I would like, and other than that, my sister got one too, even though she's 25 and lacking her own computer...but I won't get into that...and wants me to put some songs from a cd onto hers but the lame itunes thing keeps telling me the ipod doesn't play those kind of files, even though I already converted in itunes.

and I also cannot figure out how to put videos on my ipod, which really sucks because that was supposed to be the cool part about having one of the new ones. :(

can anybody help, and before I waste anybody's time, my computer is seriously running low on memory (I've had to go through and clean it out a bunch of times now) so I would like to not have to donwload any massive programs, and I am only 15 so I can't exactly download one that will let me use it for 5 minutes and then expect me to fork over cash.

thanks in advance! :)

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into this:

Since last night, my iBook G4 has randomly been freezing for no apparent reason. Last night it seemed to be happening when I used Word, but it's frozen a few times today without Word being open. I verified & repaired my disk & disk permissions earlier this afternoon, but the problem still seems to be happening. Does anyone have any idea what my problem may be? Or, even further, what I could do about it?

My Mac is LOUD!!! Should I be worried? AppleCare Experience, anyone?
Does anybody have any experience with a noisey PowerMac?

I am the owner of a dual 1.25GHz G4 PowerMac. I've always noticed that it's a little noisey with the fans, but, I have read that it is typical of such a system. I was worried about how sometimes I hear a ticking coming from fans. Sometimes the fans sound like they're reving like a car engine. I've done some research online and was instructed to update the firmware, which I have done. But, still it does sound very loud. I'm stressing because I can't afford for this computer to go out on me!

Does anybody have any experience with Apple's AppleCare coverage? Has anybody purchased the AppleCare coverage for their Macs? I know they are fairly reliable machines. I know this from experience. But, I have this nerveous feeling in my gut about my PowerMac. I'm thinking of going for the AppleCare protection just in case. Any thoughts on this?

Hey all, i'm looking for a portable amplifier to get ear-drum-braking sound from headphones with my ipod. i know these things exist, they run on 1/2 batteries, and you carry it in your pocket. only problem is that no one in future shop/ best buy/ audio video 2000/ radio shack or any other electronic stores knows what the hell this is. i googled it, and couldn't find anything except one, which was going for $200+. Any ideas where i could get one?

WON'T WAKE UP FROM SLEEP!!! G4 is being lazy!!!

When my computer goes to sleep I can't get it to wake up by pressing the keys or using the mouse. When the monitor turns off I can still hear the computer fans. And I can't get the computer to turn back on. It won't wake up from the sleep. Why does it do this? What can I possibly do to try to remedy the situation. It's a pain that I have to keep holding the power button to shut of the system and turn it back on that way. It makes me nerveous because it can't possibly be good for the computer. I love this thing. I don't wan to risk messing it up.

It's a dual-mirror drive G4 1.25GHz Dual processor machine. It's running OS 10.3.2.

Any help as to how to get my computer to wake up from sleep would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Till next time...

I'm new to the community. New to the Mac world. Until recently, I'd never used a Mac [and so, never known life without the blue screen of death]. When my friend introduced me to his iBook G4, I was inclined toward hatred of the Mac, due only to my assumptions gathered from opinions such as Mac Parody. However, in the 48 hours that I stayed surgically attached to this wonderful machine, it never once did anything that could warrant my complaint. I dogged it like a redneck with a Ferrari, and it complied to my every wish with such eagarness, it was if it would ask 'is there anything more I can do for you?'.

Being the college bound student that I am, I've started saving for my own iBook. That's what my little signature bar below is. My pathway to owning perfection ^.^

Now that I've seen you can actually use a computer and not have it crash on you [haha, you thought you were going to run Adobe?!] I don't think I'll ever go back. Besides, what could be better than the ultimate ANTI-VIRUS computer. Never again will I shell money into a weapon of mental destruction. I've been converted!

Software Update
Note to all Mac OS X Users

Apple has swiftly revised the latest Security Update 2004-09-07 (Panther version linked) from version 1.0 to 1.1, most likely in response to recent FTP problems that have resulted on systems that the update was applied.

Mircosoft hypes "Longhorn"
An excerpt from an article on Macdailynews.com:

'...Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had written in an email to Microsoft employees, "Some way off in the future lies a generation of technology that Microsoft promises will change the lives of every computer user. Codenamed Longhorn, it involves a complete revamp of the company's two core product lines - the Windows operating system and Office productivity suite. It promises to bring greater ease, reliability and security. In short, it will be 'the next quantum leap in computing, which will put us years ahead of any other product on the market.'

It so hard not to laugh at this type of blank enthusiasm. They (Microsoft) knows very well "Longhorn" will never be this super OS they are hyping it for. Just read anywhere about all features they are dropping in order to meet their 2006 deadline...its absurd! In my opinion, Longhorn might just turn out to be another Service Pack....but in any scenario, it WILL turn out like every other M$ product on the market: Slow and Bulky...

On the other hand, Mac OS X 10.4 aka "Tiger" is looking to be everything Longhorn is dreaming of plus some. Just browse some macintosh rumors / news websites and take a look at some of the features that are being leaked about it everyday. At first, I thought it wouldn't be worth the upgrade cost, but now I think I am definitely going to take the plunge of the rather light price of $130. (compared to what Microsoft charges for XP)

As many of you might allready be aware, Pittsburgh has finally received an apple retail store! It is located in Shadyside and just opened on Sept. 4th. I was unable to attend the grand opening as I was on Vacation sailing, in Erie, but from what I have heard, it is a great little store. Smaller than most apple retail outlets, but a nice size.

Before Shadyside, the nearest Mac outlet was in Cranberry, an apple reseller named Mac Outfitters. They were not considered a "true" apple retail store, but both sold and serviced macs just like a real one.
